Q: Which frets do you recommend for my instrument?

A: There are many factors to consider when choosing which frets to purchase. There’s playability, the look of the frets, and other considerations to be made. Most of the time in those cases it’s a matter of personal preference. If you’re looking for the specific fret size used on your guitar, please note that we won’t always know what was used. Even though we supply the vast majority of manufacturers, we don’t know what sizes all of them use, especially on older models.

Q: How do I install the frets into my guitar?

A: Please note that we are a musical instrument supply company and we do not build or repair guitars ourselves. Advice on how to install and techniques should be obtained by professionals in the field.

Q: How many guitars can I do with one pound of fret wire?

A: The number of guitars that can be done per pound of fret wire varies based on the size of the wire. Typically, a guitar can be done with between 5 and 6 feet of wire. If you go to our choosing fretwire page you will see that every size has a feet per pound column. You can calculate how many guitars can be done with a pound by dividing The feet per pound by 5-6 feet.

Q: What is the radius of your fret wire?

A: The radius of our fret wire varies based on the size. Typically, the radius is about 10″, though there are exceptions.

Q: Can you change the radius of the wire for me?

A: Our wire is manufactured pre-radiused. If you need a different radius, we can have it adjusted for you. This is a special order service. The minimum order to re-radius a coil of wire is 1 lb. The cost is $60.00 to re-radius the first 10 lbs plus the cost of the wire. There is an additional $3.15 charge per pound for each additional pound. Because this is a special order service, PLEASE EMAIL US before placing your order online. Fret sets cannot be re-radiused.

Q: I have a nickel allergy. Can I use your fret wire?

A: We recognize that there are people who have nickel allergies and would like to accommodate everyone. Currently, only the EVO Gold fret wire is nickel free and is considered hypoallergenic.  At this time, we recommend individuals with nickel allergies avoid nickel silver and stainless steel wire since they both contain nickel.

Q: Do you offer wholesale pricing to luthiers?

A: At Jescar, we try to offer the lowest prices for the best quality products. The prices that you see on our website are our best trade prices that we offer to all builders and repair shops. We do not artificially inflate the prices and then provide a trade discount.

Q: Do you offer different tang sizes?

A: Most of our wire sizes come in only one tang size (about 0.020″) with the exception of FW40080 in nickel silver, FW37080 in nickel silver, and FW43080 in nickel silver.  Please refer to the information provided for each fret size to check the exact tang width.

Q: How hard is EVO Gold wire compared to Stainless Steel and Nickel Silver?

A: EVO Gold wire is a harder material than nickel silver though not as hard as stainless steel, usually falling in the middle of the hardness range.  Many builders and repair shops like working with EVO because it has excellent working properties and provides the player with increased fret life and great feel like stainless steel.
